‘Recruiting doctors to work both in general practice and in rural areas is challenging with medical students often choosing to work in large hospitals in close proximity to their urban medical schools. The CARER medical programme run by Cardiff medical school has been trialling a new initiative to place third year medical students in general practice in a rural location for a full year, experiencing GP led training and immersing them in rural practice.  During their year at Aberystwyth, students have conducted individual research projects in the locality and this extended seminar is an opportunity  to hear the findings of their work as well as offering opportunities to hear more about their experiences of the CARER programme before they return to complete their final two years in Cardiff.’

If you would like to be a speaker in the seminar series please

contact:rural-health@aber.ac.uk
